Activities
‘Anything is possible and nothing is mandatory!’ is the credo at Hotel Bakker.
Feel free to spend the whole day cozy in our “home”. However, we would also like to introduce you to the beautiful surroundings.
We are happy to list our favorite activities in and around Vorden for you.
Hiking
Hotel Bakker in Vorden is situated in the heart of an ancient bocage landscape: a colorful variety of forests, meadows, farmlands, and hedgerows. Characteristic farms, country houses, and castles are hidden within this landscape. The many walking routes lead you past the most beautiful natural and cultural gems. We are happy to give you tips for the most beautiful routes.
In the Taproom and in your hotel room, you will find a folder with more information and various walking routes in the area.
Bikes
The Eight Castles Route is the oldest signposted cycling route in the Netherlands. As early as 1913, the mayor of Vorden guided tourists around for the first time, passing the eight castles in his municipality. That role has since been taken over by VVV guides, but you can also easily cycle the route on your own. Would you rather explore other a side of Vorden? There are numerous (themed) cycling routes throughout the region.
In the Taproom and in your hotel room, you will find various cycling routes and further information. Feel free to ask us for the best tips!
Culture Sniffing
From historic farmhouse style rooms to Modern Realist art. Vorden alone boasts seven galleries with a wide range of work. The Zelhem museum Smedekinck gives an impression of farm life in past centuries. A must-see is Museum MORE in Gorssel, the largest Modern Realist museum in the Netherlands. With a special annex dedicated to the work of Carel Willink in the beautiful Ruurlo Castle. Zutphen also features two interesting museums with rotating collections: Stedelijk Museum Zutphen & Museum Henriette Polak.
In the Taproom and in your hotel room, you will find a folder with more information and various sights and hotspots in the area.
Golf
In the vicinity of Hotel Bakker, there are several professional golf clubs with extensive facilities and beautifully landscaped golf courses.
For example, the 18-hole competition course and challenging 9-hole Shortgolf/Par3 course at ‘t Zelle in Hengelo (Gld) are located on an estate. Lochem also features a magnificent, mature golf course with 18 challenging holes set in lush nature.
At the beautiful 9-hole Engelenburg golf course in Brummen and the Golf Club in Hoog-Keppel, you can both book a green fee independently.
Curling
You depart from Hotel Bakker for an enjoyable game of Klootschieten; a traditional Achterhoek ball sport. Several routes can be booked under the guidance of an experienced guide. We can provide small prizes in the form of a keychain with a ‘kloot’ (ball) and a fabric ‘klootzak’ (ball bag). If desired, we can arrange a reception with coffee and tea, a drink, or lunch. Halfway through the pleasant, active walk, it is possible for us to serve you a snack and a drink in the beautiful woods of Vorden.
Skeet Shooting
Animal-friendly hunting; that’s clay pigeon shooting. This involves shooting at a clay pigeon—a type of saucer—using a shotgun with birdshot cartridges. Clay pigeon shooting is fun for young & old, for ladies & gentlemen and in summer & winter!
At Clay Pigeon Shooting Range ‘t Ruurlose Broek, you can learn this under the guidance of a certified shooting instructor. Bird shooting, wind buck shooting, hand archery and air pistol shooting are also available.
Reservations can only be made via ’t Ruurlose Broek.
