Achtkastelen Village of Vorden
Vorden is a pleasant village in the region of Bronckhorst and the heart of the Gelder Achterhoek. The name was first documented in 1121 and is derived from ʻvoordeʼ: a fordable place in a stream or river. In this case it is the Vorden stream. Recently, a fordable place was recreated in the stream behind Hotel Bakker. Since 1976, Vorden has been labeled Pearl of Gelderland. And not for no reason. The location in the characteristic coulisse landscape is beautiful. Vorden is known as the castle village. Eight castles form part of the famous cycle tour the Achtkastelen route. Even a ninth castle has been added since a border correction was made.
Hanseatic towns
Vorden is a friendly village with an active social life, various shops, many galleries, beautiful forests with cycling and walking trails and a proper outdoor swimming pool. Regular events take place with the annual highlight being “King’s Day” and the summer festivals in July. Charming Hanseatic towns Zutphen and Doesburg are close by and Lochem and Doetinchem are also worth a visit.
